Elon Musk Offers to Pay TSA Salaries Amid Budget Crisis

Elon Musk has offered to cover the salaries of U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) personnel who are set to miss paychecks for the second time in six months due to a federal budget crisis.
Funding issues within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees the Transportation Security Administration, have persisted for more than five weeks. While security officers are required to report to work despite not being paid, security lines at some airports have stretched for hours.
In a post on social media platform X, Musk stated that he would like to offer to pay TSA employees’ salaries during the budget impasse that is negatively affecting millions of Americans traveling through airports nationwide.
Airlines and travel groups have warned that staffing shortages among the TSA’s approximately 50,000 security officers could worsen over the weekend. According to federal data, TSA employees earn an average annual salary of $61,000. Due to the partial government shutdown, some airports have reportedly begun accepting donations to support security personnel.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune said bipartisan negotiators have narrowed disagreements over DHS funding, but a final agreement has not yet been reached.
